Left fielder Gene Woodling left the yard and had 6 RBI as the Washington

Senators were badly beaten by the New York Yankees, 16 to 5.

Woodling enjoyed a great day at the plate. He tripled plating three runs in

the 2nd inning and cracked a two-run shot (his 6th of the season) in the 5th

inning. New York provided plenty of action in the 2nd inning scoring 4 runs,

the 6th inning plating 4 runs and the 8th inning when they had 4 runs on 4

hits. New York rapped out 14 hits for the afternoon.

Joe Ostrowski(7-3) got credit for the victory, pitching 6 innings and allowing

2 runs. Jim Pearce(6-4) suffered the loss. He was hit hard and gave up 8

hits and 3 walks in 4 and 2/3 innings.
