First baseman Joe Dimaggio launched 2 homeruns as the Washington Senators were
badly beaten by the New York Yankees, 15 to 3.
Dimaggio was really 'in the zone'. He laced a single scoring a run in the 2nd
inning, electrified the crowd with a Grand Slam home run in the 3rd inning
and lost the ball over the fence for three runs (his 29th of the season) in
the 4th inning. New York kept the scorekeepers busy in the 2nd inning which
saw them plate 5 runs on 4 hits and the 3rd inning which saw them plate 6
runs on 5 hits. Neither team managed to score after the 4th inning.
The winning pitcher was Tommy Byrne(16-7) who allowed 3 runs in 8 innings.
Lloyd Hittle(2-1) was hit with the loss. He was pinned with the loss despite
not allowing an earned run in his 1 and 2/3 innings of work.
