Walt Dropo touched them all and had 4 RBI at Yankee Stadium where the Boston
Red Sox beat the New York Yankees 9 to 6.
Boston scored the decisive runs in a big 9th inning with 3 runs using 2 hits.
Clyde Vollmer led off and he laced a base-knock. Dom Dimaggio struck out,
unable to help the rally. Billy Goodman then drew a walk. Dropo came up and
he smacked a three-run homer (his 15th of the season). It was roller coaster
of a game as the lead change hands 5 times.
The win was credited to Walt Masterson(4-6) who went 1 and 1/3 innings
allowing no runs. Mickey McDermott earned his 4th save. Tom Ferrick(5-2)
absorbed the loss in relief. Boston scored big getting 4 runs off him in 2
and 1/3 innings.
Boston now has a record of 42-34. With an impressive recent record of 8-2,
New York hopes this will only be an isolated loss - followed by another nice
run.
