In an embarrassing outing for the Boston Red Sox pitching staff, New York

Yankees flexed their collective muscle amassing 17 runs as Tommy Byrne(9-2),

with relief help from Bob Porterfield, allowed Boston 5 runs.

Joe Collins was a thorn in the side of the hometown fans as he enjoyed a fine

day at their team's expense. He delivered a single which plated a run in the

3rd inning, lofted a three-run 'big-fly' (his 6th of the season) in the 4th

inning and stroked a one-base hit scoring a run in the 7th inning. New York

bats were hot in the 4th inning when they had 5 runs on 4 hits and the 6th

inning scoring 5 runs. The New York offense was great, scoring in 7 of the 9

innings.

Dick Littlefield(1-2) absorbed the loss. He was hit hard and gave up 8 hits

and 5 walks in 3 and 2/3 innings.
