In a good matchup it was the red-hot New York Yankees 7, the floundering

Washington Senators 5 at Yankee Stadium.

In the bottom of the 3rd inning New York scored 4 runs when they had 3 base

hits. The highlight belonged to Yogi Berra who thrilled the crowd when he

tripled bringing in two baserunners. Washington threatened in the 9th but

their rally came up short.

Whitey Ford(7-1) picked up the victory, allowing 5 runs in 8 innings. Tom

Ferrick earned his 10th save. Sandy Consuegra(1-6) ended up with the loss.

No one has been able to stop New York lately as they lengthened their winning

streak to 7 games.
