First baseman John Mize hit 2 doubles and had 2 RBI at Griffith Stadium where
the New York Yankees beat the Washington Senators in 10 innings 7 to 3.
The score was knotted at 3 after nine innings. New York won the game in the
10th inning. The crucial at-bat was provided by Mize who deflated the
spirits of the home town crowd when he doubled plating two runs. New York
won despite being out-hit by Washington 13 hits to 10.
Joe Ostrowski(3-0) went 2 innings allowing no runs for the victory. Al
Sima(1-2) was the loser in relief. He was not very effective, surrendering 4
runs in 3 innings.
Yogi Berra's hitting streak extended to 24 games.
