Catcher Al Evans had 2 base hits and 2 RBI as the Washington Senators defeated
the New York Yankees by the score of 4 to 2 at Yankee Stadium.
Washington jumped out to the early lead in the first inning with 2 runs
utilizing 2 base hits. After an out was recorded, Mickey Vernon got things
rolling when he drew a walk. Irv Noren stepped into the batter's box and he
banged out a single. One out later, Cass Michaels stepped up to the plate
and he drew a walk to load the bases. Evans stepped in and he delivered a
single which was good for two runs. New York had 9 hits in the game while
Washington had 6, but Washington had the more timely hits.
The winning pitcher was Sid Hudson(5-7) who allowed 2 runs in 7 and 1/3
innings. Bob Kuzava earned his 2nd save. Allie Reynolds(8-3) suffered the
loss.
'Thankfully we got ourselves a win', Hudson said. 'It's great to be back on
the winning side of things.'
