First baseman Joe Collins had 4 hits and 4 RBI and Whitey Ford took a

no-hitter into the 9th inning as the Boston Red Sox were badly beaten by the

streaking New York Yankees, 16 to 0.

Collins had a good evening at the plate. He cracked a solo homerun (his 7th

of the season) in the 2nd inning, doubled resulting in a run in the 5th

inning, doubled which scored a run in the 8th inning and lined a one-base hit

plating a run in the 8th inning. New York provided plenty of action in the

8th inning when they had 12 runs on 9 hits. New York had a total of 21 hits

for the game.

For Ford(8-1) it was his 2nd shutout this year. The left-handed Ford lost his

chance for a no-hitter when Billy Goodman singled with nobody out in the 9th

inning. Ellis Kinder(7-5) was hit with the loss. He was knocked around by

New York, allowing 14 hits and 6 walks in 7 innings.

New York continued their winning ways, with their streak now at 8 games and

counting.
