Center fielder Larry Doby cracked 2 homeruns and had 4 RBI at Municipal
Stadium as the Cleveland Indians beat the New York Yankees by the count of 11
to 4.
Doby was really 'in the zone'. He blasted a solo shot in the 5th inning,
doubled which plated a run in the 6th inning and lifted one out of the park
for a two run home run (his 23rd of the season) in the 8th inning. Cleveland
finished with 15 hits while New York ended up with 8.
Bob Lemon(20-9) went 6 innings allowing 4 runs for the victory. Lemon got
relief help from Al Benton who gained credit for his 20th save. Allie
Reynolds(15-7) suffered the loss. He allowed 9 hits and 3 walks in 4 and 1/3
innings.
This win by Cleveland continues their recent hot streak. In their last ten
games, they have a record of 8-2. For the season, they are 88-51. With an
impressive recent record of 8-2, New York hopes this will only be an isolated
loss - followed by another nice run.
