It was a great finish at Fenway Park as the Boston Red Sox pulled off a

dramatic comeback beating the New York Yankees by the count of 7 to

6.

Boston erupted with the game winning runs in the bottom of the 9th inning when

they tallied 4 runs on 5 hits. The crucial at-bat was provided by Walt Dropo

who made the crowd come alive when he rifled a three-run blast (his 26th of

the season). Due to a poorly pitched ballgame, scoring in 6 different

innings was still not enough for New York to come away with the victory.

The victory was credited to Al Papai(3-1) who went 2 innings, allowing no

runs. The losing pitcher was Allie Reynolds(15-6) in relief. He allowed

Boston 4 runs in 2 innings of work.

Joe McCarthy was all smiles after the ballgame, 'It sure was looking pretty

dim there for a while, but our guys never gave up - and neither did our fans

- they kept cheering us on. What a sweet win!'
