Left fielder Cliff Mapes lofted one into the 'cheap seats' and had 3 RBI as
the phenomenal New York Yankees outscored the Boston Red Sox 11 to 3.
Mapes enjoyed a big day at the plate. He delivered a solo blast (his 7th of
the season) in the 2nd inning, hit a single in the 6th inning and laced a
base-hit which was good for two runs in the 8th inning. Overall New York
out-hit Boston 16 to 10.
The victory went to Whitey Ford(14-1) who went 2 innings, allowing 1 run.
Ellis Kinder(16-7) ended up with the loss in relief. He surrendered 3 runs
and 4 hits in 1 inning.
