Whitey Ford tossed a complete game shutout and John Mize slammed a homerun and
had 4 RBI as the New York Yankees destroyed the Detroit Tigers by a score of
13 to 0 at Yankee Stadium.
Ford(11-1) was in control of the game from the outset. He didn't give up
much, just 6 hits and 2 walks in 9 innings. New York dominated offensively
as they scored in 6 different innings.
The loss was charged to Hal Newhouser(9-8). He allowed a few too many
baserunners giving up 8 hits and 2 walks in 3 innings.
