At Yankee Stadium the spectacular Cleveland Indians halted a 5 game slide and

outscored the New York Yankees 4 to 1.

Cleveland claimed the early lead in the first inning scoring 2 runners on 1

hit. That scoring would be all that was needed. Cleveland had 6 hits

overall, while New York had 3.

Steve Gromek(7-4) picked up the victory, allowing 1 run in 7 and 2/3 innings.

Gromek got help from Al Benton who was credited with his 17th save. Tommy

Byrne(13-6) was charged with the loss.

Lou Boudreau was just happy to get a win, 'We've had such a bad streak of

games -- boy, it's great to get the monkey off our back. Now maybe we can

relax a little and play the kind of baseball of which we are capable.'
