New York went ahead for good in the 2nd inning plating an isolated run.  That

scoring would be all that was needed.  New York managed only 6 on the

afternoon.  

 

The winning pitcher was Allie Reynolds(16-7) who allowed no runs in 7 innings.

Joe Page was credited with his 11th save.  The loss was charged to Art

Houtteman(15-12).  He was pinned with the loss despite not allowing an earned

run in his 7 innings of work.  

 

With this win, New York has a league leading 98-42 record.  They have been 5-5

lately.  Detroit will hope that this loss is only a 'blip' on their recent

8-2 run - and not a start of a new trend.
