In a good matchup it was the Detroit Tigers 8, the New York Yankees 6 at
Briggs Stadium.
Hal Newhouser(10-9) got the win despite looking shaky at times. He gave up 4
runs, 7 hits and no walks in 5 innings. New York had a chance to come back
in the 9th but they came up short.
Vic Raschi(13-12) was given the loss. 'You have to give New York credit, they
fought us tough to the end' Red Rolfe said. 'It could have gone either way,
but I'm glad we pulled out the victory.'
