WEB GEMS- Top 1st: Phil Rizzuto robbed Elmer Valo of a base hit.

Center fielder Sam Chapman slammed 2 homeruns and had 4 RBI and Lou Brissie

completed the game without help from the bullpen as the Philadelphia Athletes

topped the New York Yankees by a score of 8 to 3 at Yankee Stadium.

The New York fans didn't appreciate the big day Chapman had. He slapped a

base-hit in the 2nd inning, clubbed a three-run home run in the 3rd inning

and lofted a solo-blast 'downtown' (his 10th of the season) in the 6th

inning. Philadelphia had a total of 17 hits for the game.

Brissie(10-9) picked up the complete game victory, allowing 3 runs. Allie

Reynolds(11-5) was given the loss. He was knocked around, surrendering 5

runs in 3 and 2/3 innings.

The Philadelphia ballclub's record now stands at 38-67. New York has a record

of 73-31 after the loss.
