Larry Doby jacked one out of the ballyard and had 2 RBI and Early Wynn pitched

a complete game at Municipal Stadium as the Cleveland Indians came back

dramatically to top the New York Yankees by the score of 4 to 3.

Cleveland scored the decisive runs in a big bottom of the 9th inning with 2

runs on 2 hits. Johnny Berardino led off and he delivered a one-base hit.

Joe Gordon followed and he drew a walk. Ray Boone then grounded into a

double play. Doby came up and he lifted one out of the park for a two run

home run (his 12th of the season) giving Cleveland the victory as 56,893

happy fans celebrated wildly. Cleveland had a total of 9 hits for the game.

The winning pitcher was Wynn(10-5) who allowed 3 runs for the game. The losing

pitcher was Tommy Byrne(11-5). He allowed 9 hits and 8 walks in 8 and 2/3

innings.

'Now that is what I call fun! I just love baseball, especially games like

this, of course,' Lou Boudreau offered. 'Everyone at the stadium had a great

time - did you see the fans go wild there at the end?!'
