Whitey Ford took a no-hitter into the 7th inning and Hank Bauer had 3 base
hits as the New York Yankees defeated the St. Louis Browns by the score of 3
to 0 at Yankee Stadium.
Ford(9-1) was virtually untouchable. He allowed just 2 hits and 2 walks in 9
innings reducing his ERA from 2.15 to 1.88. The left-handed Ford lost his
no-hit bid when Dick Kokos singled with nobody out in the 7th inning. New
York had a total of 8 hits for the game.
Duane Pillette(2-5) was the losing pitcher. He allowed 2 runs and 7 hits in 5
and 1/3 innings. 'He was moving it around and spotting it very well.' Zach
Taylor said. Ford pitched a great game. He deserves all the credit.'
