In a close game it was the Detroit Tigers 9, the New York Yankees 7 at Briggs

Stadium.



Art Houtteman(11-9) was solid if not spectacular. He allowed 7 hits and 1

walk in 6 innings and gave up 3 homeruns. New York had a chance to come back

in the 9th but they came up short.



Houtteman was helped out by Paul Calvert who recorded his 11th save. Vic

Raschi(9-8) was given the loss. With this win, Detroit has a 48-46 record.

They have been 4-6 lately. New York has a record of 68-28 after the loss.
