John Mize smashed 2 homeruns and had 4 RBI as the New York Yankees defeated
the Detroit Tigers by the score of 9 to 7 at Yankee Stadium.
Mize had a big evening at the plate. He cleared the fences for a two-run home
run in the 2nd inning and smashed a two-run homer (his 26th of the season) in
the 7th inning. Both teams finished the game with 11 hits.
The victory was credited to Tom Ferrick(6-2) who went 2 innings, allowing no
runs. Joe Page was credited with his 5th save. Dizzy Trout(5-4) was the
loser in relief. He pitched 2 and 1/3 innings allowing 2 hits and 2
walks.
The New York ballclub's record now stands at a league leading 62-24. With the
loss, the Detroit ballclub's record is 44-41.
