Hank Bauer blasted 2 homeruns and scored 3 times and Whitey Ford had a strong
outing as the incredible New York Yankees defeated the Cleveland Indians 3 to
1 at Municipal Stadium.
Bauer led the offense for New York. He ripped a solo home run in the 4th
inning, slapped a single in the 7th inning and lofted a solo-blast 'downtown'
(his 14th of the season) in the 9th inning. Allie Reynolds pitched a perfect
ninth and was credited with his 1st save.
Ford(10-1) went 8 innings allowing 1 run for the win. Bob Feller(12-7) took
the loss. The New York ballclub's record now stands at a league leading
71-30. With this loss, Cleveland has a 6-4 record of late, 63-39 overall.
