Joe Dimaggio hit 2 doubles as the indomitable New York Yankees defeated the
Boston Red Sox by the score of 6 to 5 at Yankee Stadium.
In the bottom of the 7th inning New York scored 3 runs with the help of 4
hits. The key offensive moment was provided by Hank Bauer who electrified
Yankee Stadium when he doubled plating two runs. Boston had a chance to come
back in the 9th but they came up short.
The victory was credited to Vic Raschi(10-9) who went 7 innings, allowing 4
runs. Raschi got help from Tom Ferrick who earned his 11th save. Walt
Masterson(5-9) was the loser in relief. He surrendered 1 run and 2 hits in 1
inning.
'This was a tough loss,' said Joe McCarthy, 'the kind that sticks with you for
awhile.'
