Allie Reynolds went the distance as the New York Yankees topped the Detroit

Tigers by a score of 8 to 3 at Briggs Stadium.



New York jumped out to the early lead in the first inning scoring 3 runs

utilizing 3 base hits. Phil Rizzuto led off the inning for New York when he

lashed a single. Jerry Coleman came to the plate and drew a walk. John Mize

then belted a three-run homer (his 30th of the season). New York rapped out

11 hits for the afternoon.



Reynolds(11-4) finished the game allowing 3 runs in the victory. Fred

Hutchinson(4-8) was tagged with the loss. He pitched 6 innings and

surrendered 6 hits and 1 walk.
